Blip.tv’s Mike Hudack on the Evolution and Equalization of Web Video and Television
Yes, it’s on YouTube. But check it out. It’s an interview I did on Friday about Web video’s move to the television set and the future of the television networks.
Quick take-away:
- Blip now does 70mm+ video views per month, reaching about 22mm people;
- We have about 2.2mm episodes in the can from about 48,000 active show creators;
- We’re aggressively moving towards the television set (while expanding Web-based distribution) through VOD, Internet-connected televisions and various set-top boxes;
- The playing field is leveling out as networks bring their content to the Web and Web-based show creators bring their content to television;
- The networks are going to look very different in the future… either they’re going to be like very specialized banks or they’re going to be all about distribution and monetization… they’re not going to stay the same, and they’re not going to die outright either.

I love the product integration in this video. It feels so organic. Like Mike was really enjoying a Canada Dry seltzer....
